Italy - Bonjourno
A holiday to Italy promises to be memorable as it will be filled with relaxation, culture, art and arguably the best food and wine in the world.
Italy is a country known for its rich history, breathtaking scenery, and delicious cuisine so whether you are a solo traveller, a couple or a family Italy is a destination that you will fall in love with and go time and time again.
So much choice from the beautiful breathtaking Amalfi Coast to the ancient ruins of the eternal city Rome there literally is somewhere for everyone.
One of the main reasons Italy is such a popular choice it’s because of its rich history and culture and is home to some of the most iconic landmarks such as Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Colosseum, the ruins of Pompeii and can give you a glimpse into the ancient past of Italy and allow you to walk in the footsteps of the past.
The architecture of Italy is unique and is home to some of the best museums and galleries in the world mixed with an array of stunning churches that house world renowned art pieces from artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci.
All the above mixed with the natural beauty of Italy with the beautiful hills of Tuscany to the azure Amalfi Coast. Italy’s landscapes are breathtaking and offer way more than just a beach or sunshine holiday.
Now let’s talk about the famous cuisine - Italian food is loved all over the world for its simple and rustic approach to Pasta made using local fresh ingredients. All subjective of course but the best pizza in the world is said to be found in Naples and many would say the best gelato would be found in Florence. Italian wine is produced in every region of Italy and is the world’s largest wine producer and is most famous for its Barolo, Amarone and Chianti.
So where to go in Italy - let me share some of my personal favourites.
Lake Garda - so Garda is the largest lake in Italy and offers a combination of beauty, culture and history. It is the perfect family destination as has so many activities including GARDA LAND theme park. A wide choice of accommodation is on offer from Caravan Parks right on their lake to boutique 5-star hotels. There are many different resorts all offering their own unique flavour. It is worth bearing in mind that the North of the lake places like Riva and Torbole is dominated by winds so very welcome in their summer months and are ideal if you are into kite surfing and wind surfing. Lake Garda to me resembles the Norwegian Fjords with the majestic mountains to crystal waters.
My favourite Italian city is Rome - known as the eternal city now whether you are an into history and culture or you just like good shopping and great food then Rome has it all. I prefer to go out of season as in the summer months can be very hot and makes sightseeing exhausting - so Rome really is a year-round destinations. Rome is sometimes called the world’s biggest outdoor museum. It is captivating, fascinating and stylish.
Rome must see: Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, The Vatican
Another favourite part for me is the beautiful Amalfi Coast. It is paradise with its rugged coastline, picturesque villages, crystal clear waters and dramatic cliffs. The most popular place for clients to stay is Sorrento. I love Positano and Ravello but for a first time to the area then Sorento is a great base to explore this incredible part of the world.
Amalfi must see: Pompeii, a day trip to Capri, eat pizza in Naples, a drive along the Amalfi coast to see the beautiful towns, a beach day (there are free beaches and some VIP beach clubs on offer) and no trip would be complete without drinking Limoncello.
Italy season tends to be from May - September but for the Italian cities these can be enjoyed all year round.
Flight connections from either Glasgow or Edinburgh for most Italian cities but we also have a Pisa flight from Prestwick.
In conclusion Italy is a great holiday choice for everyone whether you are in interested in culture and history, natural beauty of just love the food then you won’t be disappointed.
La vita e breve vis e goditi I’tslia (Life is short go and enjoy Italy)
